For a local service business I build a dedicated page for each service and the areas it covers, instead of one page trying to rank for everything.
On a UK carpet cleaning site I created separate pages for carpet, sofa, mattress and commercial cleaning, aimed at Slough, Berkshire and the surrounding areas.
A business that offers four services usually has one page that mentions all four. That page gives both the visitor and Google a weak match for each individual search.
Why separate pages
Someone searching for sofa cleaning wants a page about sofa cleaning. A page about carpets, sofas, mattresses and commercial work serves none of those searches well. A dedicated page lets each search land on exactly what the person asked for.
What each page needs
One service and one clear heading
The page title and main heading name the service and the area, so the page is obviously about one thing.
Content that belongs to that service
What is included, what the job involves and which areas you cover for it. Content that only makes sense for this service.
Trust signals next to the claim
Reviews, certifications and before and after photos placed on the page, where a visitor decides whether to call.
The fixes around the pages
The pages work better when the basics around them are right. On the same project I corrected page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, image alt text and internal links, set up and optimised the Google Business Profile, and verified Search Console and worked through the crawl and indexing issues it showed.
Do not clone one page and swap the town name. Google's spam policies call pages created to rank for specific, similar search queries, such as place variations, doorway abuse. Each area you name should have something genuinely specific to say.
Mr Expert is an ongoing project and its results are still building, so I am not quoting ranking numbers. This article describes the structure I used and the reasoning behind it.
The full build is in the Mr Expert Carpet Cleaning case study, and my local SEO services page explains what I offer.
Common questions
How many pages does a local service business need?
One for each service you want to be found for, with the areas you cover described on it. Add separate area pages only when you have something genuinely different to say about each area.
Is a Google Business Profile enough on its own?
It is a strong start for Maps and local search, and it works better alongside a website with a page for each service. I treat them as parts of one setup.
How long does local SEO take?
It depends on local competition and the starting state of the site and profile, so I do not quote a fixed timeline.
